High-Performance Buildings

At Cougar USA, we help design, build, and maintain High-Performance Buildings through Water Control Solutions. But what is a High-Performance Building?

In the US Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, it is defined as “a building that integrates and optimizes on a life cycle basis all major high-performance attributes, including energy conservation, environment, safety, security, durability, accessibility, cost-benefit, productivity, sustainability, functionality, and operational considerations.”

At Cougar, we have a simpler definition:

A Cougar High-Performance Building is Sustainably Designed to provide Safe, Reliable, & Comfortable Operation at the Lowest Life Cycle Cost.

Simply put, a positive balance of Sustainability, Operations, and Cost

Sustainability – energy and water-efficient systems with long usable life to reduce waste.

Operations – Comfort and reliability in the eyes of the tenant, patient, guest, and facility manager.

Cost – Lowest Life Cycle Cost through energy & water savings, low maintenance costs, and long usable life, not through lowest initial price.

Can you have all three?

The Triangle of Truth says we can only have two sides; ex. something Fast and Good will not be cheap.

This principle is easily understood and applied to many things in life. But, it does not work when looking at our definition of High-Performance Buildings because Sustainability, Operations, and life-cycle cost all complement each other.

Cougar USA Products and Solutions

When helping our customers with the design, installation, or maintenance of a system, our goal is to achieve this balance. The Hydro MPC, our pressure boosting solution from Grundfos, is a perfect example.

Cougar USA Hydro MPC

Sustainability

The Hydro-MPC will last 20+ years when properly installed and maintained, and Grundfos is a global leader in sustainability.

Operations

The control system will maintain constant water pressure regardless of the demand in the building. The CR Pump, Integral VFD’s, and a Bladder Tank are the most effective combination to provide constant water pressure in a commercial building.

Life-Cycle Cost

The Hydro-MPC System may be seen as a “Premium” priced item; however, with its energy-efficient operation, low maintenance costs, and virtually no downtime there is no doubt it has the lowest life-cycle cost.
